Meet Janet Maruzza. She's the owner of Pickle Me, inspired by her Mum's many batches of chutney and pickles, which she'd sell to family and friends.
Janet was born in Kolkata, India, and later lived in Chennai, South of India, before moving to Melbourne, where she's been based for most of the last 44 years. Janet spent 20 years working in the banking industry, but cooking and food was always a big part of her family life.
Chatting with Janet is a delight! So much warmth, enthusiasm and love of people and food. Janet reminisced about trekking from her family home in Sunshine to visit friends in Hawthorn, taking pots and pans to cook a three-course Indian feast. Now that's dedication!
She started Pickle Me in 2018, and the recipes have been passed down from her parents and their English, Portuguese and Indian heritage. This Anglo-Indian combination has created a distinctive flavour in Pickle Me's range of pickles and chutneys.
Janet says, "My Mum is an excellent cook – but I don't do everything
exactly like she does; my cooking is more influenced by the way I was brought up, having lots of types of foods from all over the world, not just based on Indian cooking. For example, in my Lemon Pickle, I blend the lemon. My Mum might not approve, but it tastes great!". We've tried a few of their flavoursome chutneys, and we can't wait to try them all!
We'd love for you to follow @picklemeaustralia or visit pickleme.com.au to order or find a market/stockist where you could pick up a delicious jar or two! Or you could order a Humble Sampler Artisanal Hamper, and try her seriously zesty Date and Lime Pickle.
